keeping on...

this week is an easy running week.  following week 2 of marathon running.
~ monday was a rest day.  did i rest?  no.  but i didn't run!
~ tuesday i ran 3 miles.  pain was there the whole run, bearable but annoying.  it went away the last half mile.
~ wednesday i ran 4 miles on the greenway.  one daughter biked next to me, the other ran with me. i loved that. pain was there but a much less.  felt like a small knot.  it went away before mile 3.  mile 4 felt so normal.
~ thursday (today) i ran 3 miles on the treadmill.  once again, it just went away around 2.5 miles.  i did some leg weights for hamstrings, adductors, and quads.  no pain. (i never have pain when i do weights.)
tomorrow is a rest day.  saturday is a 7 miler.

i went to fleet feet today and bought my 9 yr. old daughter some real running shoes i had been saving up for. i wish mine were the price of hers!  she loves to run with me so i'm going to take her on all my 3 and 4 mile runs if i can. i told the lady there all about my pain. she listened. that's all that mattered to me. she's a hardcore runner.  a good one.  they all are at that store. so inspiring .  like some of my blogging friends.  :)  of course she does not know what the pain could be. but the fact that it comes and then just goes away is odd. i just can't a$$ord to go to the doc right now. my man asked me if i could keep training knowing that the pain goes away after about 2.5 to 3 miles.  i sure can. but i want to know that i'm not doing myself more harm.  i tired resting for 10 days and it was the same when i started back up.
tomorrow morning i am going to my chiropractor.  i can't help but wonder if it's a pinched nerve or something is out of place...  we'll see.  it's worth a $45 dollar try at this point.
off to do some rolling and stretching.

i just want to have that excitement, that passion back...

So proud of you for keep on keepin on! It sounds like once you're good and warmed up, you're ok - that makes me think it's fine to go on training. But what do I know? don't listen to me, lol.

So glad you got your gal some running shoes. I think I need to do that for M. She really loves to run with me, and when her shoes wear out, she starts to have arch pain. (dern those hereditary freakishly high arches!)
Love you, dear!

It really could be IT because that sometimes gets better as you run and it stretches out/warms up some. So it could be painful in the beginning and then subside but would probably get painful again if it was a long distance run. And it could be on your opposite side this time in the hip area. I've had it on both sides before both knee and hip, and it doesn't always turn into a long drawn out injury, might be short and sweet and you'll be back to normal! Whatever it is I hope the chiro helps/helped you! Icing helps too, maybe an ice bath after your next run? That really helps! :) Good Luck! I know you will make it to the marathon start line, don't give up! :)

Kate I got your comment and I'm so glad your chiro helped you! The two best things that helped with my IT was ice massage after a run (not sure how you do that in the hip area though, worked well for the knee pain--probably ice bath is better for hip pain.) and the standing IT stretch. It's hard to explain but I have a post about it on my blog because a couple other people asked about it. Scroll through my March 2010 posts and you'll find a blog about it with some pictures. It may be what you already know but check it out if you're interested. Good Luck!!! I'll be at MCM too in October with my husband. (both running it, his first marathon!)
