half marathon PR - finally!

monday - 5 miles with my oldest. we are running a half marathon on thanksgiving day. he hasn't trained at all since football just wrapped up. but running comes so natrually to him and he really wanted to run this one with me. so i thought a little 5 mile run would do him good!

thursday - i rested tues and wed - sort of! we had family in town and hiked on wed. i haven't slept well all week. was really hoping for a good nights rest but it just didn't happen. so we got up early and headed down to Atlanta for the Atlanta Thanksgiving Half Marathon. we were in corral C (the middle) and got to start at 7:40. we were aiming for a 10min pace with a 2:15 finish. walked through 3 water stops. i took 2 gels and had them at mile 4.5 and near mile 9. no music - he stole my ipod! :) but the running camaraderie was just awesome! it always has been in that race! the hills were comparable to the first half of the marathon i ran last month in Atlanta since the route was very similar. so i was ready to take them on! my son ran with me until mile 10, then i said, run forest run! he finished 4 minutes ahead of me, and i finally PR'ed on this 13.1 timed race  - 2:09. i was actually aiming for a 2:15 and at the splits i realized i was way ahead so then i aimed for 2:10. i was so comfortable and felt great the entire time (got a little hot at the end though since i had two shirts on - it was 40 degrees at the start!)

sunday -  ran 7 miles and felt great. i rested two days after the half since i had a tight spot in my upper left quad. same weird spot after the marathon but it was more sore then!

monday (yesterday 11/28) - ran a fast 4 miles. it was windy, rainy and cold . 50 degrees when i headed out  and dropped to 48 when i was done - wore shorts and my  legs were so cold!  i am starting to see a better pace as i remain consistent. am very hungry to break 2 hours on a half and 4:30 on a full. new goals!

not running today - something i ate rocked my world all last night. i feel light as a feather and a little tired so it's probably best i rest. and it's quite cold out - 41!!!
