| waiting 4 spring feels like 4ever! |
thursday - i was planning to run 20 yesterday. and it was a pefect sunny day to run 20 miles unlike today. but carpool plans got messed up and i lost my window of time for a long run. gotta roll with the changes.
so i ran 20 miles today... in the cold rain. it was not easy. but it's done. and that's what matters right now!
i ran the first 5 miles on a hilly route and came back by our mailbox, ate a gel and filled my hand held water bottle. (i like to stash water and gels in there so i don't have to carry them all the time.)
i ran the next 5 miles on a mostly flat route. i ate a gel at mile 9 and came by the house at mile 10 to fill up my water bottle. i also had to change my new shoes and shirt/jacket. i had so much water in my shoes and was soaked through my clothes and quite cold. so w/in 5 minutes i changed my soaking wet tops and jacket for a shirt and my under armour "storm" sweatshirt. it actually repelled water the next 10 miles - which for the most part was light rain and mist.
i repeated the flat route for the next 10 miles since i felt so tired still from being sick. i just didn't have the energy for hills. i ate another gel at mile 13. at mile 16 to 17, i hit the wall. i remember this feeling from the first time i ran a marathon. i was so tired and sore. everything hurt. even my arms felt like lead. i ate my last (4th gel) at mile at 16.5 hoping it would help. and maybe it did. but more than anything it was a mental game to finish.
i was a little discouraged when i was done. my time wasn't great (3:50) and i was drained and hurting. but i looked on the sunny side thanks to tina who reminded me the good - i ran 20 miles and have 15 days until the race! then i rolled and stretched and drank lots of chocolate milk. :)
friday - i was stiff more than i was sore. my back was actually what was sore. i decided to muster up the energy to run 5 miles. i've been trying to do this the day after a long run. i hear it helps move the lactic acid build up out faster. the first mile and a half was HARD! everything felt like lead! but then i warmed up and tried to hold back!
saturday - ran 5 miles with a man. all i have to say is that is a ♥treat! :)

It sounds like you may be right and need more fuel. I wouldn't change my fuel schedule for the race now unless it was to add familiar foods that you're sure agree with your stomach, though. That's safest!
Great job to get through it, even though it wasn't an ideal running day!
15 days?! So excited for you!
Now that I think about it, looks like you did have gels often. Maybe what made the 20 so hard was that you ran 4 Monday and then didn't run until Thursday. Maybe if you had been able to run a little more between those runs it would be better. Sometimes, I feel sluggish after a break. On race day, you'll probably surprise yourself with all of the race day excitement and have a great race!
