marathon #5

monday - 5 miles at 11. i just can't get out the door earlier! did lots of fartleks.

wednesday - 5 miles at 11 again! so hot but for a quick run it's not so bad!

chose not to run the next two days since i found out at 5pm thursday that a space opened in the Hot To Trot 8 hour Race and i had two hours to decide if i wanted it! my family said do it so i signed up.

saturday - the race started at 8am and had 100  trail ultra runners. (you had to have ultra experience in the heat to do this since it's normally HOT down here in the ATL!)  it was 95% humidity just about the entire time. the sun never came out and heated it up to the 88 it was supposed to be. instead it got up to 80 and started to rain at mile 4. it stopped raining at mile 20! i was soaked but didn't care. we basically ran in a state park on a 1.3 mile loop, over and over. it didn't get old since it was new to me and was loaded with roots, 3 good climbs, sand, mud, and nice scenery.

my itb started to get tight and i could feel it in my left knee around mile 19. i walked a little more than usual and it seemed to help after a mile. i was only going to run 20 miles but felt good to go 6 more. my family - especially my 11yo daughter :) - wanted me to run a marathon so i went ahead and finished at 26.2.

it was a blast! the trail runners were the nicest runners i've ever been around. each time they'd pass, someone would say great job or something encouraging along those lines. i LOVED that! some people ran 10, 15 and 20 miles but most ran a marathon, a 50K or the full 8 hours. it was such a fun laid back race!

You are AMAZING! I love that you just allofa sudden decided to run a marathon - a summertime trail marathon at that. You're incredible - congratulations on #5. Wow!
