snake!!

last night i hit the gym at dinner time and ran 3 tempo miles on the treadmill.  it felt SO good to run "fast" - faster than i have been.  that pain was not present so i was able to just go. then i did leg weights.  my goal is to do them each monday night as well as a tempo run on the 'mill.  first run for each week seems to be a short one so that should suffice. today i hit the greenway too close to noon for a 6 mile run.  it was h.o.t. the 3 younger kiddos came along.  they and i have declared this to be their "P.E." time.  since i homeschool, and we have (and need) flexibility, i think it's going to work out good if i just go with the flow during the next 11 weeks of training and just work with it.  no need to stress over it!  i am loving how much they are a part of my training!
so i can now admit i started out the first 2 miles too fast.  i wasn't out of tempo mode!  right before mile 2, my second daughter noticed a snake on the boardwalk.  with all the shadows and leaves that were cast on it, i would have thought it to be a long curly stick.  the back half was on the boardwalk, the front half was swaying off the boardwalk.  i am certain it was a typical garden/black snake.  for now on, i'm taking the camera.  missed the snake, a beautiful blue butterfly being still on a bench, a huge dragonfly on a mile marker, a beautiful big red wild flower of some sort... so many sights for my tired body to take in!  i was dead at the end of the run.  got on the scale and realized why!  i lost a lot of fluids.  so after a nice cold bath with some ice, i am going to drink, drink, and drink... nice cold h20!

Must have been a bit of a scare! I used to see snakes all of the time, before we moved into Houston last September, so when I see a strange stick in the path, my first thought is often, is that a snake? So far, I've only seen a dead one since we moved.

Sounds like a great way to do PE! : )
