20 miler DONE!

ice baths are the best invention ever!
got my 5 miler done on thursday and rested friday. 20 miles done saturday - woo-hoo!! it was hot hot hot when i was done (85), but i did it and felt great most of the time! my right hip didn't bother me one bit during the run. go figure. but my right gracilis muscle was tight the first 18 miles. i would stop to massage it here and there but it never really loosened up until the end. i went through about 70oz of water/powerade. not enough. i didn't time it right. but felt ok when done. i had 4 gu's which sustained me. never felt depleted. legs just felt tired after 15 miles. walked a mile after running 20 to relax the muscles. drank a hammer nutrition recoverite, then drove home. took an ice bath for 15 min. then showered and rested for an hour. then we went out to dinner and walked around for a mile. i probably should have just come home and went to bed. sunday i was quite sore in my left leg. the whole quad area hurt. and my outer left knee was tender and the knee felt a little swollen. right hip was still behaving and rarely felt tight. i iced my left knee and leg a lot. took aleve. and tried to rest and not go up and down the stairs so much.
never had curly hair like this - after braids & 20 miles!

my man and kiddos rock! they have been the best support team i could ever ask for. even when they didn't want to come along, they would loose any grumpiness once we were on the trail. i am so grateful for them and how i never had to be alone on the trails or long runs!! my almost 10yo daughter came with me the first 10 miles. then my man and younger 2 came along from mile 10-20.yes, that means my almost 10yo went 20 miles! they toted my fluids, stood on benches to cheer me on, and encouraged me just when i needed it most. my oldest works saturdays, but he's still been a big part too.

today, i'm going to the massage therapist. i really need this appt. my left leg isn't as sore right now and everything else seems to be fine. i'll rest today as well and think about running tomorrow when tomorrow comes!

now i can finally say the two words i've been longing to say... TAPER TIME!!

You're family is the best! 20 in that heat must have been hard. I'm glad you had your encouragers with you! Thanks for the muscle link - didn't know what you were talking about! And thanks for the good article link on my blog, too! Cute braids!

Ha, before I read your post I saw your pic and was going to ask, "What product do you use because your curls look GREAT?!?" :0) They do!
Way to go making it go taper. Now is the time to rest well and be void to your body. You've asked a lot of it these past months!
Enjoy the lower mileage!!!

I am glad you read the taper madness. Wendy sent me that link before i ran the Austin marathon and then I remembered to read it before I ran Chicago and it is so perfect! It totally sums up how you feel during the taper!

I am so proud of you and i love you my friend!! Someday we will run one together!!
